Connecting Camera and Remote
- Install and open VolleyCam on both iPhones.
- Choose Camera on the tripod phone.
- Choose Remote on the courtside phone.
- On the Camera, open the QR code.
- On the Remote, tap Scan and scan the Camera QR code.
- Accept Local Network permission on both devices if prompted.
- Wait until the Remote reports a connected, command-ready state.
The core Camera-to-Remote workflow is local. It does not require uploading the match or using gym internet.
Match Setup and Recall Lists
VolleyCam can remember commonly used team names and tournament names to reduce repeated typing during tournaments. Select a recalled value or enter a new one. Verify the current teams before recording.
The team-color palette contains ten choices. Existing saved team-color selections retain their intended values.
Scoreboard
The live scoreboard can show team names, team colors, scores, set number, serve indicator, and elapsed recording time. When scoreboard burn-in is enabled, the same match context is rendered into the saved video.
Turn the scoreboard off before recording when you want clean footage without an overlay. When disabled, the saved video should contain neither the scoreboard nor its timer.
Remote Score Controls
The large Home and Opponent score regions are designed for vertical swipe control. The intended mapping is:
| Gesture | Action | Confirmation |
| Swipe up on Home | Increase Home score | One firm haptic after Camera acknowledgement |
| Swipe down on Home | Decrease Home score | One firm haptic after Camera acknowledgement |
| Swipe up on Opponent | Increase Opponent score | Two firm haptics after Camera acknowledgement |
| Swipe down on Opponent | Decrease Opponent score | Two firm haptics after Camera acknowledgement |
| Undo | Reverse the latest supported score operation | Three clearly separated long haptics after acknowledgement |
A success haptic should occur only after the Camera confirms the authoritative score update. A disconnected or rejected command should not produce a success pattern.
Heart Tagging
Use the Heart control to mark important rallies while they happen.
- In Full Match workflows, a Heart can preserve a time marker and favorite metadata.
- In Rally Point workflows, a Heart can mark the short clip as a favorite.
- Supported exported clips can also be marked as Favorites in Apple Photos.
Automatic Preview and Camera View
- Before recording: the Remote receives a low-bandwidth automatic preview, approximately once per second at most.
- During recording: automatic preview stops to protect recording performance.
- During recording: use Camera View to request one current snapshot.
- After recording: automatic preview resumes.
Camera View is a snapshot request, not a continuous recording-time video stream.
Camera Displacement Warnings
While recording in the applicable tripod/full-match workflow, VolleyCam monitors device orientation for an estimated framing shift of more than approximately two percent horizontally or vertically.
- No warning should appear while the Camera is not recording.
- A qualifying incident creates one warning and one haptic on the Remote.
- A current Camera preview appears automatically with the warning.
- Use Refresh Preview after adjusting the tripod.
- Use Set New Baseline only after the Camera is stable.
- Dismiss closes the current warning but must not disable later warnings.
Match Browser, Trimming, and Export
- Open Match Browser.
- Select the recorded match or relevant rally marker.
- Preview the proposed clip.
- Use Adjust Trim to refine start and end times.
- Export one rally or choose a batch export.
- Confirm the clip in Apple Photos.
VolleyCam is designed to preserve source frame rate, video orientation, and audio in exported rally clips. The applicable scoreboard context is retained when scoreboard export is enabled.
File Names and Metadata
VolleyCam may use meaningful names and descriptions based on match information such as team names, tournament name, set, rally timing, scores, and favorite status. Metadata helps identify footage without searching through anonymous files.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need two iPhones?
No. You can record locally using Camera mode on one iPhone. A second iPhone adds the Remote workflow for courtside recording control, scorekeeping, previews, Heart tagging, and displacement warnings.
Does VolleyCam require gym Wi-Fi, cellular service, or a cloud account?
The core recording and Camera-to-Remote workflow is local and does not require uploading match video or creating a VolleyCam cloud account. Device-to-device performance can still be affected by the local radio environment.
Does VolleyCam upload my videos?
No. VolleyCam records locally and saves video to the user’s device and Apple Photos when requested. VolleyCam does not operate a developer cloud service for uploading match footage.
Does VolleyCam add a watermark?
No. VolleyCam does not add a promotional watermark to your footage.
Why does automatic Camera preview stop during recording?
This protects recording performance and Remote responsiveness. During recording, use Camera View for a single current snapshot. Automatic preview resumes after recording stops.
Why did I receive a Camera displacement warning?
The Camera orientation changed enough to suggest a meaningful framing shift while recording. Review the automatic preview, adjust the tripod if needed, request another preview, and set a new baseline only after the Camera is stable.
Will every tripod movement be detected?
No. The warning is based on device motion and orientation. A pure lateral translation that changes the view without changing phone orientation may not be reliably detected.
What does Dismiss do on a displacement warning?
Dismiss closes the current warning. It does not intentionally set a new baseline and should not prevent a later distinct Camera movement from creating another warning.
Can I lock the Remote phone and continue controlling the match?
No. VolleyCam does not provide Lock Screen score or recording controls. Keep the Remote app active when reliable scorekeeping, Camera control, and warnings are required.
Can I control scores by voice or phone gestures?
Voice scoring and IMU-based scoring are not included in VolleyCam 1.0. Score changes use the visible Remote controls and swipe regions.
Does VolleyCam include live streaming?
YouTube Live Streaming is not included in the production Version 1.0 experience.
What is Multi-Device Sync?
Commercial or broader multi-device synchronization is not part of the production Version 1.0 experience. The ordinary two-device Camera and Remote workflow remains available.
Does VolleyCam automatically identify players or create AI highlights?
No. Player tracking, jersey recognition, and automatic AI highlight creation are not included in Version 1.0. VolleyCam uses intentional Heart tags, Match Browser review, trimming, and export.
Why is my exported file large?
High-resolution, high-frame-rate volleyball video requires significant storage. VolleyCam is designed to preserve media quality rather than heavily recompressing every export.
Do optional tips unlock features?
No. Tips are entirely voluntary and do not change the app’s capabilities.
Does VolleyCam collect or share my data?
VolleyCam does not collect, sell, share, or track user data. Match information and media remain on the user’s devices unless the user chooses to save or share them through Apple system features.
